Temporary Denture is a false teeth made of plastic or acrylic. These are removable false teeth which are
placed on the gums where teeth are missing. For hygienic reasons; this has to be removed at night.
Getting used to it
- False teeth are not going to be well tolerated by most of the patient for the following reasons:
- BITING EFFICIENCY of Temporary Denture is only 10% as that of natural teeth. First of all
you need to train yourself to hold the Temporary Denture in the mouth. Chewing starts with
small morsel of food which are soft. Sticky and big sized food initially will dislodge the
denture. E.g a banana can easily dislodge the denture, but if it is cut into small pieces will be
easy to manage.
2. There will be EXCESSIVE SALIVA PRODUCTION on the mouth because Temporary Denture is
a foreign body. So constantly you have to sallow the saliva to get over this problem.
3. LEARNING TO TALK with Temporary Denture. If you practice reading loud with the
Temporary Denture in the mouth for a period of few hours will help you to talk better with
denture. Quit a lot of your effort is needed to learn to speak with Temporary Denture.
4. GAG REFLUX
Some patients have vomiting sensation because Temporary Denture is a foreign body. The
plastic area which covers the gum in the field with the tongue and tongue will have a
tendency to push Temporary Denture out.
5. DISRUPTION OF TASTE
Since this plastic area covers the gum and the palette the taste presumptive are limited and
hence cause disruption of taste.
6. PRESSURE POINTS OR SORE SPOTS
In the initial days when you start chewing with the Temporary Denture one can get sore
spot or pressure points. This is comparable to shoe bites. When you start wearing new
shoes you can get shoe bites or sore spots. In the mouth if the Temporary Denture causes
sore spots the dentist has to relieve the pressure point by adjusting or grinding the
Temporary Denture.
HOW TO GET OVER THESE PROBLEMS
To tide over all these problems patient, need a positive attitude and a willingness to cop
up to it until when one gets used to it. There is no magic that a dentist can do to help to tide
over for these problems. Some patients who are not socially committed may remove this
Temporary Denture and try to eat which is completely acceptable. There is hard and fast
rule that denture has to be used.
(For e.g.) If you want to walk without a shoe and if that is comfortable it is okay to do so.
For people who are undergoing Dental Implant Treatment they can at least be happy
that this Temporary Denture is not a life sentence. After the healing period the Temporary
Denture will be discarded and permanent teeth will be fabricated. The permanent teeth
attached to dental implant will be having a biting deficiency of 99% as that of your natural
teeth.
b.) Daily Care of Temporary Denture
The Temporary Denture is has to be taken out of the mouth and has to be cleaned everyday
with the scrubber and soap.
Durability: the Temporary Denture is breakable and if it falls on the ground it can be broke or
fractured.
c.) Warranty or Replacement
There is no warranty or refund of payments if the Temporary Denture is broken, or misplace,
lost or unhappy about the appearance after the delivery, re-doing another one will impart the
extra cost and patient need to bear it.
